BACOLOD CITY–The principle of no work, no pay has already been applied to all ordinary workers, so it is only fair that government officials should set an example, said Wennie Sancho, secretary general of the General Alliance of Workers’ Associations (Gawa) in support of the bill proposing no work, no pay to all government officials.
He said in a statement on Sunday that such a bill, once passed into law, would be a step towards good governance and fair treatment of taxpayers’ money.
Filed by House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos, the bill seeks to promote transparency, accountability, and integrity in governance by ensuring that public funds are spent only when elected officials fulfill their duties.
Ordinary workers are not paid if they don’t work, so there’s no reason that government officials should be exempted, Sancho said.
Gawa strongly recommends that the proposed No Work No Pay Bill should be extended to all government officials, including those in local government units, Sancho added.
